Thoughts of the Week

The art of writing isn't as appreciated as it should be. Words are the most important aspect of our lives. Without them, we wouldn't get what we want. Can you picture a world without words? Yes, there would be the advantages, since there would be no more verbal abuse. But at the same time, no one would be able to share jokes with each other or compliment one another. No one would be able to place an order for burgers and fries. Nobody would know whether or not it's safe to wade in the lake. No one would ever know if they're physically unhealthy. We wouldn't get anywhere. The world wouldn't even be fun. And that's where the art of words and writing come in. Words convey a message. They let us know whether someone wants something. Whether or not something is safe. Whether or not we need physical assistance.

Aside from all of that, the job of a writer is very simple. I don't mean simple as in the job itself, because heck, the job of writing in itself is an entire ship voyage from the North Pole through the Atlantic Ocean to Antarctica. Topped with hurricanes and giant squid attacks. I mean simple as in the job can be started as early as possible. You love writing? You can immediately showcase your skill by writing entries for magazines, winning money from entering poem contests, or posting short stories on a blog! The possibilities are endless! And the best part is that writing is a very cheap job. I don't mean cheap as in it doesn't earn you a lot of cash. I mean cheap as in you don't need a lot of equipment to do this job. Writing may require a pen and paper or even a fancy computer, but that's about it. The rest lies in your own imagination. Everything else is up to you. The future literally lies in your hands.

I know you must be defending your own dream job in your mind. You're thinking, "Writing? That job sucks. You just sit in a room all day, getting paid to put words on paper! What's the fun in that?"

You know those kinds of people who strongly despise writing and attempt to avoid it at all costs, yet they really love to read books? Or they're obsessed with movies? Those kinds of people, deep down, have a writer's spirit inside. If they appreciate the art of writing in forms they approve of, then it's easy to say: they like writing. Books and movies all follow storylines, behind of which is the art of writing. What was that beautifully designed quote my favorite character said on page 24? What exact words were used to describe that serene beach scene in chapter 3? What makes Mulan such a wonderful, motivational movie? Everything lies in the art of words! Words are just words, you say? I disagree! Words, if arranged in the right order, can change the lives of others. They can cause fear, sadness, anger, joy, disgust, etc! (Inside Out reference.) Heck, words can even start wars! #fact #trump

Words go to the heart. And because of that, it's important we use them in the right way.

My parting advice to you is... if you really want to be a writer, go for it. Don't listen to anyone who says writing doesn't make a lot of money. Ignore the fact that writing is a solitary job. If you love it, do it. Aren't jobs all about doing what you love? Go on, writers. Make the world better. Make the world proud, one word at a time.

Until next time! <3
