Who Are We? ...snowflakes

Who are we, really? When we're asked who we are, or who someone else is, we almost always begin with their appearances or their professions or their positions in an organization. For example, someone asks me who my best friend is. I would say, "She's an Egyptian-American girl with pretty eyes and a gap between her two front teeth, and she's very tall." Read that description. Is that really who my best friend is? Or is that just what she looks like? There is much, much more to who we are than just our looks. We're all just a bunch of different personalities put into different types of bodies and circumstances. Our favorite foods, our worst fears, our happiest memories, all of that is part of who we are. It's not about looks. It never is. Just because two people are red-headed doesn't mean they will both love potatoes, for example. We all could have been born looking just like each other, but we could still differentiate our best friends by how the...

My Weekend (Apr 9-10)

(PRECAUTION: This was meant to be posted two weekends ago. #procrastination) Let me tell you about my weekend! A short summary in bullet points... I FINALLY got new clothes! I went on a bus to a secret studio! 100 students from a Christian school came to visit the local masjid! SA's cat fell asleep in my lap with his paws curled up and it was freakin' adorable! Okay. Now to elaborate. Also, my belly just farted. Okay. I have ensured that there will be no more bodily function interruptions, so I shall now proceed to elaborate. I hope my classmates never find out about this blog because I am hella strange.  ELABORATION TIME! Ew, my hair got stuck in my mouth. SO!!! We usually go shopping at the healthy food store every Saturday morning, but this weekend, our first stop was Ross. Oh, and S drove. Abi was giving her guidelines, and one of them was, "If N starts feeling dizzy, your driving is not good." And I wasn't dizzy, so yay. ...

Oh Burn!

I have to say, despite the stinging pain on three fingers of my left hand, that a burn in words is more effective than a burn with heat. It's really difficult for me to type right now because I burned the thumb, index, and middle finger of my left hand while making dinner. Boy, was this the worst burn I've ever suffered! Or maybe not, because I have dealt with third-degrees more than once. But I think this one has hurt me the most. Thankfully - OW! - people on the Internet had the answers. I slathered my fingers in raw egg white, which acted like a natural bandage. Now my fingers are no longer crusty and wrinkled. They're smooth again and the fingerprint has redeveloped, yet they're still not in good enough shape to help me type properly. I'm using my left ring finger to help my right hand type. I have to fix A LOT of mistakes right now. That burn affected me so much that my stomach is hurting. It may be because my belt is too tight, or because some sort of stre...

Thoughts of the Week

The art of writing isn't as appreciated as it should be. Words are the most important aspect of our lives. Without them, we wouldn't get what we want. Can you picture a world without words? Yes, there would be the advantages, since there would be no more verbal abuse. But at the same time, no one would be able to share jokes with each other or compliment one another. No one would be able to place an order for burgers and fries. Nobody would know whether or not it's safe to wade in the lake. No one would ever know if they're physically unhealthy. We wouldn't get anywhere. The world wouldn't even be fun. And that's where the art of words and writing come in. Words convey a message. They let us know whether someone wants something. Whether or not something is safe. Whether or not we need physical assistance. Aside from all of that, the job of a writer is very simple. I don't mean simple as in the job itself, because heck, the job of writing in itself is a...

Y'all Are A Li'l Confused

Something that really bothers me is how people incorrectly spell the slang terms "y'all" and "li'l." What makes you think they're spelled like "ya'll" and "lil'?" "You all" is shortened to "y'all" (pronounced "ye all "). The way other people spell it, "ya'll" (pronounced ya 'ull) is incorrect, because you're supposed to emphasize on the "all" part. Pronounce both of those, you'll see I'm right. And if you disagree, feel free to argue with me in the comments. As for "lil'," which bothers me even more than "ya'll," WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PUT THE APOSTROPHE AFTER THE WORD LIL?! That literally makes no sense! You're trying to make up a quick way to say "little" so you put in a li'l jump between "li" and "l." Therefore, an easier way of saying "little" is born! Why put the little...
