Malaysian Adventures Pt 3: Stop Stalking Me. Seriously.
I've never felt so uncomfortable while shopping. Does this happen in ALL clothing stores? No? Okay, it's only Malaysia.
AAARGGHHHH!!! Clothes shopping in Malaysia is so annoying!!!!
I'm sorry, these are all the pictures I have of shopping. But that's fine, because I have more stories than I do pictures.
Mom told us that the Malaysian word for 'stare' is 'jeling.' When we stopped in highway jams in Malaysia, the people in their cars besides us always stared. We called them "jelingers." Ughhhh so annoying!!!
Hey, I mentioned this in a previous Malaysian Adventure post. The fact that people like to stare. I can't help being so goshdarn beautiful doe!!! ;3
Alright, just imagine a normal day when you're going clothes shopping. You walk in the store. You begin fingering the items. And then, slowly, employees begin to surround you... swarm around you... tell you what else you should buy...
And you're like, DUDE, let me browse! If I need your help, I will come to you!!! If you come stalk me, I'm not going to buy any durn plum thing!! OKAY?!
That is EXACTLY what shopping for clothes in Malaysia is like. Clothes shopping only. What's the point of putting the items out in front of the store INSTEAD of the cash register if you're so scared people are gonna steal your stuff? Eh?
That's exactly why they follow you, though. To make sure you don't steal anything. I think Malaysian clothes store employees just made the #1 on my pet peeve list.
There are WAY too many occasions for me to list. But I do recall fingering the items, someone coming to me, me giving them "the look" and walking away. SO THERE
Oh yeah, one time, I was looking at some clothes, and I sensed a human coming towards me and I heard a voice. I thought it was one of those employees, so I pretended I didn't hear anything. Then the human came closer, and I thought, okay, fine. Whaddaya want? But when I looked up, I saw my bro H!! I laughed silently (because an employee was watching -_-) and said, "I thought you were one of those annoying employees stalking me so I ignored you."
Lel.
There was only like, one good store owner in the entire mall who I actually sympathized with. He was a Turkish guy. I was with S and Dad's mama who I will call Jidda, trying to buy a kebaya for Mum. We couldn't decide which color to get her. Turquoise, or purple? We finally decided on turquoise and Jidda suggested that S try it on because S apparently has the same body as Mum? Actually I do. But I was just out of it and I wanted to sit down, so basically S and Jidda did everything. S tried a kebaya on and it was not the right size, so Jidda told the man to get the right size from his storage, and she told him to hurry up because we didn't have much time and Dad would be mad. So the man went, and we waited and waited... and Jidda was like, "Eh, where IS this guy? We need to hurry! Your father will be mad!"
Then we saw the guy coming down the hallway holding the right size kebaya, and Jidda clapped her hands. "Eh, cepat, cepat! We need to go!"
(Cepat means hurry.)
The guy began running slowly, grinning embarrassedly. I was like. erm, Jidda, calm down. After S tried it on and the size was right, the guy began wrapping it up and Jidda paid and stuff and she asked the guy questions, like where was he from and stuff. Then, as he was answering, Jidda said, "Eh, hurry up! No talking!"
"You are talking to me!!" the poor guy said in a rich Turkish accent.
S and I were silently laughing and telling Jidda to calm down. Finally, we got our butts out of that store.
Hehehehehehe... old people....
That's all I have to say about Malaysian shopping.... you won't really know how annoying it is until you go do it....
One time when we ate at a restaurant to take a break from shopping..... this happened.
We were with Grandma when this happened. Grandma was mad and brought the bread back to the counter to complain and to get me a fresh new garlic bread. Disgusting.
lol, thank you for reading!!
Until next time! :)
